Lorenzo (Spain)
riding around the world for the last 17 years
A cyclist without a bike wouldn’t ordinarily qualify for these pages, but we’ll make an exception for the quietly legendary Lorenzo (right, with Will). Originally from the Basque Country, he set off on his travels all the way back in 1997. A ridiculous 17 years later, he’s still rolling, having ridden through more than 90 countries and logged upwards of 180,000km in the process. He’d been spending some time in Guatemala after exhausting his 180-day Mexican visa, but was planning to return to Mexico – and his bike, safely stashed in Guadalajara – the day after a slightly wired-looking Will met him at the end of a beautiful but exhausting ride to Huehuetenango. Much of Lorenzo’s blog is in Spanish and Basque, but the maps showing his inspirational route don’t require any translation.
